The Maharashtra (Urban Areas), Protection Preservation Of Trees Act, come into force in 1975 and according to chapter four section 7 ( b ) once before December 1996 and after that once in every five years, carrying out a census of the existing trees in all land within its jurisdiction is mandatory.

Our aim To make better provision for trees in urban areas in the state by regulating felling of trees and providing for planting of adequate number of new trees in those area.

In any urban area, the urban local authority concerned shall constitute a Tree Authority, consisting of (the chairman and other) not less than 5 & not more than 15 persons from amongst its members, appointed in such a manner & for such period as that authority may determine.

In Municipal Corporation Commissioner of Corporation is the President of Tree Authority.

Tree Authority works according to The Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection & Preservation Of Trees Act 1975, The Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection & Preservation Of Trees Rules 2009 & Hon. High Court ordered dated 20/09/2013.

  • Tree Plantation in Pune Municiple corporation Area.
  • Organize fruit, flower & vegetable exhibition for awerness of citizen, Joint forest management program with forest department for Pune Municipal corporation Area, Fort Competition, Green Environment Festival to create awareness in school children’s & citizen regarding tree conservation & preservation, Tree plantation programme at canal, river & lake side, awareness programs on occasion of van mohtsav & World environment day.
  • Do Tree plantation on road divider & road side, Tree census after every 5 years..
  • Sale tree sapling at fair prize rate on occasion of religious programs.
  • Distribute tree seeds on occasion of dindi.
  • Give permission for Trimming of branches of trees, permission for Provisional garden NOC, permission for To Remove the tree/ transplant the tree for dangerous /construction, permission for Refund of deposit, permission for Garden completion Certificate, permission for Advertisement Board NOC.
  • Initiate action against illegal tree cutting.
  • Protection of green cover.
  • Development of central verge/ traffic circle by Public Private Partnership.


HOD's Note

Situated on the Deccan plateau along the Sahyadri Hills, Pune has a rich biodiversity of flora and fauna and Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park & Wildlife Research Centre works towards its conservation. Formed in the year 1953 the zoo is situated at the foot of the Parvati Hills and subsequently shifted to its present location at Katraj in the year 1997. The Zoo has been responsible for conserving and rehabilitating endangered species through co-ordinated breeding.
