Disaster Management as a subject essentially deals with management of resources and information as far as a disastrous event is concerned and also how effectively and seamlessly one coordinates these resources. Disaster management, at the individual and organisational level, deals with issues of planning, coordinating, communication and risk management. 

​ Key fuctions provided by department:

  • Regional Disaster Management Center, Pune Municipal Corporation provided NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) Training:- Under this project 1100 government employees from various department including departments from PMC main building, Ward offices, Fire Brigade and Nagar parishad from Pune and Satara Districts are trained for disaster management activities
  • Control Room:- 24X7 Control room has been step up at the main Pune Municipal Corporation building as well as in all the ward offices with an objective of enhancing the safety and minimize damage in the event of disaster
  • Regional Disaster Management Plan:-  Under Disaster Risk Management Centre 21 Municipal councils form Pune and Satara Districts and 15 ward offices of Pune Municipal Corporation is been trained on search and rescue operations
  • Evacuation and Mock Drill :- Mock drill is been conducted on regular basis to under this event Fire Fighting, first aid skills and rescue demonstration are done by Fire Wardens and Fire Marshall. On each floor of PMC main building Fire Wardens and Fire Marshall is been appointed to overcome such unseen devastation
  • Communication System :- Landline Phones, internet, Fax, Wireless communication system, Bulk SMS system is been introduced to give prior intimation of any devastation
  • Disaster management:- Setting up various types of committees for enhancing the safety and security in the city

Disaster management Cell, Pune Municipal Corporation

The basic functions of this Cell are to respond and coordinate immediately to the disasters as and when they take place and take effective action by providing help in the form of relief and aid to those affected, to enlighten the citizens about the functioning of the Cell and in still confidence in their minds, to impart training to the officers and staff working in this Cell and Municipal Corporation, to establish different help and relief groups and impart training, awareness programs, mock drills to keep abreast of the latest technology and techniques associated with disaster management in India and abroad ,etc. This Cell carries out an important function of co-ordination with other departments such as Police, Fire Brigade, District Administration, Divisional Commissioner office, Irrigation department, Department of Climatology, Secretariats, etc during the pre-disaster, during disaster as well as post-disaster.

  • To empathize quick response to the anticipated disaster and making pre arrangements and necessary preparations for such scenarios
  • Disaster management center needs to take necessary action and proceedings in case of any violation in the center in the event of disaster
  • For efficient functioning, the concept of pre preparation is adopted during disaster
  • Relevant trainings are provided to the employees to deal with ease & efficiency in the event of disaster
  • Well trained search and rescue teams are organized
  • Collecting time to time information of all the tools and equipment in each ward offices and to see that all the tools and equipment are well maintained and are in the working conditions
  • Proper provisions are need to be taken for the constructions buildings, etc

What We Do

 

Disaster Management involves planning what to do before, during and after a disaster or emergency occurs. Through further understanding these hazards, and assessing a structure’s behaviour to them, we can better prepare for disasters. Planning for disasters in advance significantly reduces damage to tangible and intangible heritage, including historic sites, structures and their collections.

Following are the tasks carried by Department:

  • Establishing disaster management committee in the city
  • Establishing emergency response centres in the city
  • For efficient functioning, the concept of pre preparation is adopted during disaster
  • Setting up trained and advanced search and rescue teams
  • Preparing disaster management action plan of the city
  • Relevant trainings are provided to the employees to deal with ease & efficiency in the event of disaster
  • Collecting time to time information of all the tools and equipments in each ward offices and to see that all the tools and equipments are well maintained and are in the working conditions
  • NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) training to the employees
  • Gathering all the emergency gadgets tools and equipments

  • National Disaster Response Force Training

    NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) training sessions of about 1500 staff members and employees from PMC and other Municipal Councils are being currently conducted in Talegaon by NDRF Jawans. As per the guidelines received from State government of Maharashtra, Disaster management Department is entitled to trained 1500 government employees out of which  750 Personnel has been trained for Disaster management and security, accidents, Terrorist attacks, Buildings immersion, Natural and manmade Disaster, Emergency equipments that need to be used in disaster  events, Relief and Rehabilitation Programme, Trauma management & Life serving Introduction, What is first aid, Anatomy and Physiology, What need to be done during an Emergency, Resuscitation, Heart Attack, Stoke, Burns and Scalds, Head, Neck & Back injuries, Fractures and Dislocations, Drowning.

    Training duration for this project is one week under which employees are trained from various department including Departments from PMC main building, Ward offices, Fire, Security, Disaster management wing and Nagar parishad from Pune and Satara Districts.

  • Fire Department Information

    Fire department has 21 fire engines, five mini-fire engines, five water mist mini-fire engines,seven water tankers, three water browsers,four hydraulic platforms, and three rescue vans.Also,water pearce machines, mobile container, fire& bullets, ambulance, jeeps and cars are ready to serve people and to strengthen the fire department, Disaster management is in a course to purchase 4 new Quick Response Multipurpose vehicle fitted with water Mist fire fighting system and with various rescue equipments have be designed specifically for the purpose of fire fighting to enable Fire men to extinguish the fire at initial stages.

     The vehicle will have seating arrangement for 4 firemen including driver. The water tank of minimum 500 litres and Foam tank of 50 litres capacity have be provided and fitted in the rear body fitted with water inlet and outlet connections to respond in the most convenient and efficient way.
