How was this site developed?
It was becoming exceedingly difficult
for citizens to voice their complaints regarding various roads issues. Citizens
of Pune were finding it difficult to get in touch with the concerned authority of
PMC to get their queries resolved. ‘Better Roads’ group took this up as an initiative
and came up with a platform wherein citizens can register their complaints, feedbacks
and view the current status of their complaints online as well, thus helping citizens
to be a part of this system.
In order to get this initiative to logical conclusion Persistent Systems Ltd. helped ‘Better Roads’ group to develop the site. The unique thing about this project is that it is a unique blend of NGO, Software Industry and PMC coming together to work for a social cause. This site is designed and developed using a user centered design methodology of Usability Engineering & Microsoft technologies by a team of experts at Persistent Systems.
About the new technique used to create this website:
User centered design methodology is a relatively new concept in
India . It has the following benefits:
-
Design is based on understanding what users want and then creating the design
-
Enables bringing technology to the masses, which is crucial for e-Governance projects
- Since
it is a structured and systematic approach to website design, it ensures ease of
use and high quality deliverables
Website design methodology
Phase 1 - Data Gathering and Analysis - Better Roads gathered all the Information regarding Roads, Wards, Contractors and other Authorities from PMC and handed it over to Persistent System Ltd. Engineers in Persistent then analyzed the entire data and came up with a design architecture and good working model for the site.
Phase 2 - Information Architecture - Wireframes
- Detailed Design
Phase 3 - Testing - Low fidelity testing
- High fidelity testing (interactive html prototype)
Phase 4 - Implementation - Tested with 5 daily users
- Users were computer savvy and within Persistent Systems Ltd.
- User Feedback:
- Relieved to know that PMC,Better Roads & PSL were taking an initiative towards a better means of communicating information
- Wish for daily updates on the website to know the critical decision taken by authorities
- Insistent on having a detailed and systematic complaint tracking system
